Our History

Albion was founded in 1991 and is now one of the leading companies in steel fabrication. Albion can provide fabrication and installation services in the following areas: Tankage, Pipe Lines/ Spools, and Structural and Surface Treatment. Providing services to the mining, oil, and gas industries. All work carried out complies with the requirements of AS/NZ STD and, as specified, the particular requirements of Australia’s leading refineries, chemical manufacturers, and resource organizations. ALBION ENGINEERING LIMITED has in place welding procedures for carbon steel, has in place welding procedures for carbon steel, stainless steel, Monel, duplex, and chrome-alloy steel to National and International Standards. Workshop Quality control is under the management of formally qualified Welding Specialists and Engineers. About us.

ALBION ENGINEERING LIMITED is a medium-sized 100% locally owned steel fabrication company. We have been in business since 1991 when we identified an opportunity for a specialist welding and fabrication company to supply highly trained welders and boilermakers to the Oil and Petroleum sector, where quality and safety are of prime importance. We mainly concentrate on on-site work and have a workshop at the Malahang Industrial Centre for the off-site fabrication of components to be installed on location. The mainstay of the company is John Rice who has been in PNG since 1982 with NGI Steel and Hornibrook /NGI where he was the Site Manager for most of their work for the oil companies. He was responsible for the successful and timely installation of pipelines and tanks all over PNG including the main 1,700-tonne fuel storage tank in Kimbe for British Petroleum and a 10” wharf line for Mobil Oil in Lae. Since joining Albion Engineering he has been responsible for the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of a 2,000-tonne tank at Porgera on behalf of Shell, the installation of other tanks, pipelines, and complete depots at other locations countrywide for all the PNG oil companies. ALBION ENGINEERING LIMITED has a workforce of highly skilled, skilled, certified welders, who from time to time we bring a trainer from ETRS and/or INTICO in from Brisbane Australia to conduct courses for the re-certification of our welders and to train our most promising upcoming welders to a point where they also gain certification. For larger projects, we submit pieces to Brisbane for further confirmation that our workforce skills are up to date for that particular project. In our drafting section, we have two highly skilled and experienced draftsmen, who carry out all design work for tanks, pipelines & structural projects. We continually train our draftsman on a regular basis, this is to ensure that the systems and software used are up to date and are of the highest standard, maintaining Albion Engineering Limited’s 100% record of quality and professionalism. At our workshop at Malahang, we have plate rolling facilities, a 6-tonne Chamberlain yard crane, 15-tonne Grove Rough Terrain, a 7-tonne Hyster forklift, MIG and TIG welders, sandblasting and spray-painting facilities as well as all the Arc welding, plate strippers, drills, grinders, etc. associated with a steel fabrication workshop. For on-site work, we are backed up with 10 millers 400 Amp, 1 miller 225 Amp, 1 Yanmar 320 Amp mobile welding machine, 1 Ingersoll Rand compressor, 2 Sullair compressors, 2 Atlas Copco compressors, and 3 mobile sandblasting units, 1 x Air prep mobile unit, tank erection equipment, 3 airless spray pot, hydro testing equipment for tanks and pipelines, calibration equipment for tanks.
